Semi-frameless and framed shower doors in El Paso
Not every bathroom needs heavy frameless glass. Semi-frameless and framed doors use thinner glass with metal support, which often costs less and works well in rentals and standard showers.
How the three styles compare
A framed door has metal channels on all sides, which supports thinner glass and seals the gaps well.
Semi-frameless designs keep metal around the outside of the opening but leave the door edge itself unframed for a cleaner look.
Fully frameless glass has no surround at all and is the heaviest and usually the most expensive of the three.
Good places for a framed door
Rental properties and secondary bathrooms are typical spots for framed or semi-frameless glass.
Showers where the head sprays directly at the door can benefit from the tighter seal that a frame provides.
Walls without solid backing may not carry frameless hinges, while a framed door spreads its weight along a channel.
Upkeep differences
Frames and channels give soap and minerals more places to collect, so they need regular wiping.
Modern framed doors come in more finishes than the old shiny gold and silver, including matte black and brushed nickel.
Questions
Can I upgrade from framed to frameless later?
Yes. The old frame is removed, holes are patched and the opening is measured again. Wall backing will need to be checked for hinges.
Which is easiest to clean?
Frameless glass has the fewest edges and tracks, so it is generally the simplest to keep clear.
